Payments for freelancers

Invoice the client abroad, get paid to a wallet you control.

Freelance designers, illustrators, writers, developers and virtual assistants often work for clients in another country, with no finance team to chase an invoice. Send each invoice as its own link, straight from a chat or an email. Your client pays from their own wallet, and stablecoins settle to a wallet you control. This is for getting paid yourself: Zoyn does not pay freelancers or anyone else on a business's behalf.

Before you read on: we publish every business type we take and every one we refuse — 28 we take, 11 we refuse.

Why this is harder than it looks

A client abroad, an invoice in a chat, and work delivered first.

The client is in another country

A transfer from abroad can arrive short after fees and exchange, or take days to show up.

They pay your link from their own wallet, or by card where available — buyer eligibility depends on country, payment method, provider, and compliance checks.

You invoice from a chat

Many clients are found and managed in a message thread, not a procurement system.

Send the link in the same conversation, with the invoice number as the description. Every link is a single payment of a fixed amount.

You deliver before you are paid

Chasing an unpaid invoice from another country is hard for one person.

Ask for a deposit before you start: send it as its own link, then a second link for the rest when you deliver.

Every invoice settles to a wallet only you control.

Two limits worth knowing. If your own account with us is under review, automatic payouts pause until that is resolved. And a buyer paying by card can be declined, or asked to prove who they are, before the money is sent — a payment that doesn't happen, never money taken back from you afterwards.

How it works

An invoice, a link, and the money in your wallet.

1

Agree the work and the price

Your agreement with the client says what you deliver, what it costs, and whether a deposit is due first.

2

Send the invoice as a link

Your client pays from their own wallet, or by card where available — buyer eligibility depends on country, payment method, provider, and compliance checks.

3

The payment reaches your wallet

After the required network confirmations, in the currency the link was set in.

Virtual assistants

The same client every month.

If you work for a client every month, send each month's invoice as its own link. Zoyn keeps no card on file and charges nothing automatically, so nothing is taken until the client pays.

Graphic design and illustration

Commissions paid in two parts.

Many commissions are paid half to start and half on delivery. Send each half as its own link, with the commission name in the description.

Common questions

What a freelancer asks first.

Can I apply as a sole trader?

Yes. You can apply as a business that trades as yourself. Every application is reviewed before it goes live.

Can a monthly client be charged automatically?

No. Zoyn keeps no card on file and charges nothing automatically. Each payment is its own link, which you send when it is due.

The client asks for some of the money back.

Your agreement with the client decides what is owed. Zoyn has no refund button: any refund you owe is a payment you send from your own wallet.

What does it cost me?

A percentage of each payment, agreed with you in writing before you go live: crypto payments start at 0.75%, and card payments, if your business can take them, have a separate, higher price. No monthly platform fee and no setup fee. Network fees, and any extra charge for how your customer pays, are separate. Your customer pays them on top of your price and sees their total before they pay.

Will you take my freelance work?

We publish every business type we take and every one we refuse, and every application is reviewed before it goes live. We don't promise a timeline we can't keep.

Running a firm with staff? Read the page for professional services. Taking photos for clients? Read the page for photography. Not sure we'd take your business? See exactly how we decide.

Company

Legal

Legal & regulatory disclosures

Zoyn is software. It is not a bank, a payment processor, a payment gateway, a money transmitter or a money services business. Zoyn is never the seller in a sale (the "merchant of record"). Zoyn never holds a shop's money, and does not decide how long a payment company may hold it. When a customer pays by card or bank, the payment company handles that payment under its own terms and may hold it for a short time. The money then goes to the shop's own payment contract once the payment network has confirmed it.

Businesses can be based in 64 jurisdictions. A US state stays open when at least one checkout partner still serves buyers there. Customers can pay from 130+ countries through the checkout providers we connect to; which countries customers can pay from is set by those providers, not by Zoyn, and may change without notice. Not available in sanctioned jurisdictions: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
